Questions? Concerns?
Call us Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
(781) 337-5555
South Shore Orthopedics performs all of our surgeries at South Shore Health, whether it be at the Surgical Center at 2 Pond Park or South Shore Hospital. All surgeries at the Surgical Center at 2 Pond Park are out-patient, meaning same day discharge. Surgery scheduled at the hospital could be same day discharge or could potentially require an overnight stay.
Recovery
After your surgery is complete, the surgical team will bring you to the recovery area. The unit in which you recover depends on the type of surgery and type of anesthesia used. Recovery time varies from person to person, the surgery you had, the anesthesia given to you, and your body’s response. Once medically cleared you will be discharged home, if your condition requires an overnight stay then the recovery room nursing staff will speak with the unit nurse to discuss your surgery, progress, and doctor’s orders. You will then be taken to your room.
Managing Your Pain
Pain may prevent you from doing the activities that help with your recovery so please report any new, increasing, or unrelieved pain to South Shore Orthopedics.
Discharge Instructions
- Out-patient Surgery: We ask that you have a responsible adult (over age 18) with you 24 hours after surgery. The nursing staff will review your discharge instructions with you and the person accommodating you.
- In-patient Surgery: The nursing staff will review your discharge instructions before you go home. It is important that you follow your discharge instructions, paying attention to those instructions related to your pain medications and activity level.
Wheelchairs, walkers, canes, braces, or other ambulatory aide will be provided pending what procedure you’re having done.
Any questions related to discharge instructions can be clarified by calling South Shore Orthopedics. Please reach out by calling the Administrative assistant’s number listed at the bottom of your surgical notification.
