South Shore Orthopedics is proud to have Dr. Sandra Maguire join our practice as one of the only specialists in electromyography (EMG) in the area. Dr. Maguire is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and board-certified in Electrodiagnostic Medicine by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.

Dr. Maguire grew up here on the South Shore before attending the University of Vermont for her undergraduate degree. She furthered her education by going to the University of Oregon, but interestingly she went for her graduate degree in contemporary dance rather than a medical program. But life takes unexpected turns, and she later got on the path that eventually led her back to the South Shore as a physician.

Once she did heed the call of medicine, she decided to go to medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago. She completed her internship at Boston Medical Center (through Boston University). She did her residency at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital with Harvard Medical School. She is affiliated with South Shore Hospital.

Dr. Maguire is an expert in electromyography (EMG), which is a type of diagnostic procedure that tests nerve conduction. EMG is used to diagnose nerve damage that causes symptoms like numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness. She and EMG tech Erin McMillan perform the test on-site for SSO patients referred by our other physicians. The results of the EMG can help our orthopedic surgeons form an advanced treatment plan.

South Shore Orthopedics is thrilled to have Dr. Maguire join our practice to work with the other physicians on diagnosing orthopedic conditions with EMG. We know our physicians, staff, and patients will all benefit from the experience and expertise she brings with her.
